20. How do I make a .jpeg, .tif, .bmp, etc image?
We accept over 30 different image file extensions that are created on different image creating software packages. Normally you will have a Save As… option which will allow you to specify what format you want your image saved as. Most applications will enable you to save as a .jpg as that is the most common file extension.
However you cannot simply change the file extension to .jpeg, as you must use your image creating software to change this. Normally you will need to choose .jpeg from a number of options before clicking the Save As button. Each image creating software package will enable you to choose the sort of .jpeg you need e.g. RGB or CMYK. We recommend that you should select RGB, as CMYK images will result in an error (the software package 'Fireworks' automatically selects this). Should you need more details you should refer to the image software documentation. The larger the file size and resolution the better!

21. What resolution do I need to make my image?
The image quality of your print or design is dependant upon the number of coloured dots that make up the image. The more there are in the image, the finer the detail of the image!
For minimum results your image should be at least 300 (dots per inch). Lower resolutions, or less dpi, will result in the image looking 'grainy' or 'pixelated'. Higher resolution images will also be larger file sizes, which will result in your images taking longer to upload to the web site. Remember that if you wish to enlarge your image, the number of pixels in it will also be enlarged, so it might become more 'grainy' than you would like. Check it out on-screen during the design process and only proceed when you're completely happy with your image.

Remember that if you wish to enlarge your image the resolution will need to be higher to compensate for the enlargement. For example if your original image is 150dpi and you enlarge it 200% the resulting image will be, in effect the equivalent to 75dpi. Should you need more details you should refer to the image software, camera, or scanner documentation.

22. Can I send images from my mobile phone camera?
Yes you can. Please note that the older generation mobile phone resolution is low and will produce a poor image if enlarged too much.

23. What are the resolution guidelines for ordering prints?
For the best printing results, follow these guidelines when ordering prints. The required print size is listed on the left of the table. The right hand column recommends the minimum resolution you need to print a particular size photograph. When you expand an image / picture, you "stretch" the pixels. This means that the higher the resolution (the larger the number of pixels in the picture) the larger you can print the picture, because it requires less "stretching" of the pixels.

Recommended resolution Print Size Minimum recommended resolution
4" x 6" 1024 x 768 pixels
5" x 7" 1152 x 864 pixels
6" x 8" 768 x 1280 pixels
8" x 10" 1280 x 1024 pixels

24. Which Media, Digital, Picture Cards and Memory Sticks do you accept?
We accept all cards - examples are Olympus XD, Compact Flash Type I & II, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, Multimedia Card, IBM MicroDrive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and as new media cards / sticks are launched we purchase the readers. Please ensure that you tell us which images you want? We return all such cards and other artwork with your order.
